This design watch, available now in a limited edition of 200 pieces, reflects a refined balance between industrial aesthetics and everyday wearability.
Design watch concept: functionality meets industrial elegance
At the heart of this watch’s design lies Samuel Ross’s philosophy of “functionality first”. The Big Bang Unico SR_A has a stripped-back, monochrome design, with a satin-finished black ceramic case and a minimalist, architectural aesthetic. Drawing on Ross’s background in industrial design, the watch reinterprets Hublot’s signature design elements, focusing on clarity, contrast and structure.
A defining visual element is the honeycomb motif integrated into a newly developed rubber strap. This perforated design is both aesthetic and functional, reducing weight while revealing the mechanics beneath and turning the timepiece into a tactile and visual experience.
Designer collaboration: innovation in materials and movement
This designer collaboration marks the first time that Hublot’s in-house Unico chronograph movement has been paired with Ross’s SR_A design language. The skeletonised dial reveals the intricate architecture of the HUB1280 calibre, which features a column wheel positioned on the dial side, a flyback chronograph function and a 72-hour power reserve.
The 42mm case, crafted from high-tech ceramic renowned for its durability and scratch resistance, showcases Hublot’s expertise in material innovation. Subtle industrial details, such as black-plated titanium screws and rounded luminescent markers, reinforce the contemporary identity of the watch.
With the Big Bang Unico SR_A, the Samuel Ross Hublot partnership evolves towards a more accessible and versatile expression, offering a unique blend of style and functionality. While previous editions featured experimental tourbillon constructions, this release offers a more wearable interpretation for everyday use without compromising on conceptual depth.
