Coinciding with London Gallery Weekend 2026, Hannah Barry Gallery presents REPRISE, a solo exhibition of new works by George Rouy, on view in London from June 4th to September 12th, 2026. Following its debut, the exhibition will travel to Hauser & Wirth in New York, where it will be presented from September 10th to October 24th, 2026.
Among the most distinctive painters of his generation, Rouy has developed a singular visual language centred on the human figure. Hovering between figuration and abstraction, his paintings navigate desire, identity, and alienation through bodies that seem to shift, dissolve, and reassemble before the viewer’s eyes. Figures emerge through states of flux, shaped by contact, proximity, and shared experience. Oscillating between control and disorder, clarity and ambiguity, the exhibition captures the tensions that define contemporary existence and the ever-changing nature of human connection.
In our SS26 issue, George Rouy reflects on painting as a space beyond narrative, where the body exists in a constant state of transformation. Read the full interview on abstraction, movement, and the emotional charge of contemporary figuration.
