Iris van Herpen: Sculpting the Senses is a fascinating exhibition that delves into the mind of one of fashion’s most visionary designers. Held at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris, the exhibition features over one hundred of van Herpen’s haute couture pieces alongside works by contemporary artists, scientists and designers. This immersive journey invites visitors to explore the designer’s unique approach to fashion, which transcends traditional boundaries and embraces innovation and experimentation.
Van Herpen’s creations are not just garments; they are transformative sculptures that challenge our perception of the body and its relationship to the world around us. Her designs are inspired by a wide range of sources, from the natural world to the latest technological advances. She seamlessly blends traditional craftsmanship with cutting-edge techniques to create pieces that are both exquisite and thought-provoking.
The exhibition is organised around nine themes, including water, the body and new nature. These themes reflect van Herpen’s fascination with the natural world and her desire to create fashion that is both beautiful and thought-provoking.
The retrospective will run from 29 November 2023 to 28 April 2024.
