Living Archive: Nature

Living Archive: Nature

Renowned media artist Refik Anadol presents the Large Nature Model, the world’s first open-source generative AI model dedicated to nature, developed for the DATALAND museum and the Web3 platform. It features a unique training approach based on the inherent intelligence of nature.

The first showcase, Living Archive: Nature, featuring early experimental results from the Large Nature Model, will debut at the 54th World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos-Klosters, Switzerland, 15-19 January 2024. Early products of the model will also be featured in the Echoes of the Earth: Living Archive exhibition at the Serpentine.

The project’s comprehensive language model, comparable to those used in platforms such as OpenAI’s ChatGPT, has been described as “the world’s first open-source generative AI model dedicated to nature”. This claim is made despite existing models such as AlphaFold, which can identify protein shapes, and HyenaDNA, which was trained on the human genome. Anadol explains that his Large Nature Model is different in that it is the first to focus solely on “literal, physical nature”.
