Wim Wenders’ Perfect Days centers on Hirayama, portrayed by Koji Yakusho, a Tokyo public toilet cleaner with a seemingly routine life in Shibuya. Despite the apparent monotony, each day unfolds uniquely, revealing the protagonist’s serene optimism. Unexpected events disrupt this tranquility and delve into his past. The new Wim Wenders’ film Perfect Days, was celebrated at the Cannes Film Festival 2023 and will be distributed in over 80 countries.

Wenders creates a touching narrative that takes viewers through renovated public toilets, including Kengo Kuma’s camouflaged toilet village in Shibuya’s Nabeshima Shoto Park. Over the past four years, 17 uniquely designed public toilets have been created in Shibuya, Tokyo, as part of The Tokyo Toilet (TTT) project initiated by the Nippon Foundation in 2018. Renowned architects such as Toyo Ito, Shigeru Ban and Kengo Kuma were involved in transforming these facilities, challenging stereotypes and promoting inclusivity for people of all genders, ages and abilities. These distinctive toilets, now featured in Wim Wenders’ Perfect Days.
