In January 2023, Annie Leibovitz became IKEA’s first artist-in-residence. Through this collaboration, she will capture the true essence of people’s lives in their homes around the world. Leibovitz’s penchant for intimate portraiture is a perfect fit for her new role, which aims to highlight the findings of the annual IKEA Life at Home Report.
Throughout 2023, Leibovitz traveled across Japan, the United States, Germany, Italy, India, Sweden and England, photographing people in their domestic environments. Her goal was to create a collection of 25 portraits that would capture the authentic essence of home life in different cultures around the world. The project will premiere at IKEA+ during Paris Fashion Week. In addition, six emerging designers mentored by IKEA will present designs focusing on upcycling and sustainable home furnishings.
