New focus on AI in art

The director of the Centre d’art Contemporain Genève, Andrea Bellini, works with different international curators for each edition of the Biennale de l’Image En Movement. This year, Nora N. Khan joins him for a new focus on artificial intelligence in art. Bellini seeks out curators who explore different facets of the moving image to foster a meta-discourse on its evolution, leading to unique paths in each edition. The exhibition features newly commissioned works by Sahej Rahal, Aziz Hazara, Jenna Sutela, and Diego Marcon.

Lawrence Lek’s presents Empty Rider, an autonomous car on trial for serious crimes. It defends itself with the plea of an empty rider, challenging human or machine judgment. Interspecific, an art-science collective, will exhibit AI-generated organisms alongside mathematical diagrams that simplify their complex forms.

Danielle Braithwaite-Shirley’s No Space for Redemption? is a political multiplayer game where players can suddenly change course, mixing humor with social commentary.

Basel Abbas & Ruanne Abou-Rahme’s Postscript: After Everything is Redacted continues their decade-long project using multi-dimensional film and digital elements. It explores the ongoing mourning for war-torn regions such as Palestine, Syria, Yemen, and Iraq, creating an immersive experience through layered video, sound, and sculpture. The Biennale can be seen at the Centre d’Art Contemporain Genève until 16 May 2024. For more details, visit the Centre d’Art Contemporain Genève website.
