Blending Japanese folklore with modern horror

Moni Haworth and Lotta Volkova’s upcoming book, 0081, embarks on a surreal journey through Japan, featuring artist Raiki Yamamoto in a 320-page fantasy adventure. Published by SUPER LABO, the book releases on November 9th, 2024, inviting readers to join Raiki as she traverses landscapes from Tokyo’s neon-lit streets to the eerie, abandoned Village of Dolls.

Along the way, Raiki encounters otherworldly creatures like Samurai Spiders, peculiar pets, and monstrous figures inspired by B-movie horror. Her journey blends modern urban life with folklore, moving seamlessly from bustling cityscapes to mystical temples and mountain retreats. Kamakura, her seaside hometown, serves as both destination and origin in this wild quest. Each page of 0081 unearths a dreamlike Japan, where Raiki confronts both external foes and inner demons. The book, co-authored with Haworth’s striking visual storytelling, opens a portal into a world of fantasy and self-discovery.
