A new exhibition has opened its doors at Charleston in Lewes, documenting the life of the Bloomsbury Group, a creative alliance of 20th-century art activists. The exhibition explores how the art of the period has formed the basis of modern fashion by revealing the historic paintings, drawings, and photographs within its walls.
Among the pieces collected and brought to the Cloister of the 20th century creative scene, the former home of Vanessa Bell and Duncan Grant, are pieces on the lives and work of Virginia Woolf and Lady Ottoline Morrell, as well as excerpts from Dior, Fendi, Burberry, and Comme des Garçons fashion shows and new projects by contemporary fashion designers such as Jawara Alleyne and Ella Boucht.
Curated by writer Charlie Porter, Bring No Clothes: Bloomsbury and Fashion showcases never-before-seen artworks and delves into the lives of the 20th century’s most radical thinkers and creators, uncovering the sources of inspiration they left behind for the present day.
