LVMH Métiers d’Art presents Une cosmogonie d’océans, a showcase of Josèfa Ntjam’s six-month artistic residency. Displayed in an abandoned space, the Paris exhibition features 12 sculptures.
Inspired by the mythology and ancestral deities of Central and West Africa, Ntjam builds on her previous digital works to create a series of experimental iterations that evoke an ancient future. During her 2023 residency, Ntjam collaborated with Jade Groupe workshops in Paris and Portugal. The workshop specializes in finely detailed metalwork, but they have changed their methods to produce 2-metre-high artist sculptures. Jade’s artisans have made the impossible possible by challenging production methods and techniques. Specialists have rethought tools, design and finishes to create a sculptural collection.
Established in 2015, LVMH Métiers d’Art aims to foster collaboration between artists and craftspeople through its residency program, providing access to rare materials and guidance in the organization’s specific techniques.
