Opening on April 2nd, 2025, Difference and Repetition at Rue de Ponthieu honors Gilles Deleuze’s philosophy, exploring the role of repetition in art. The exhibition showcases works by pioneering postwar artists, including Pablo Picasso, Lucio Fontana, Donald Judd, Robert Rauschenberg, and Andy Warhol, among others. It examines how repetition, seriality, and variation in their practices have disrupted traditional perceptions of form and material. Picasso’s shift from painting to sculpture reflects his idea of destruction as a means of creation, while Donald Judd’s modular structures challenge the boundaries of space and form.
In Fontana’s Concetto Spaziale, the artist pierces the canvas to open it to infinite space, embodying the idea of constant transformation. Similarly, Manzoni’s Achrome series rejects color and representation, focusing on pure materiality. Through these works, Difference and Repetition offers a profound meditation on the cyclical nature of artistic innovation and its continuous reimagining of the past and present. The exhibition runs through May 31st, 2025.
