Kengo Kuma and Associates, a Japanese architecture firm, has been commissioned to create a series of retail buildings in the Miami Design District called Mirai, which means distant future in Japanese. The design will feature colorful fluted columns around a retail building at a northern intersection of the city. This fusion of Japanese and Floridian architectural styles will combine vibrant facades with straightforward retail spaces. The ground floor will feature flexible retail units that can be customized by tenants.
Mirai aims to create a space that not only complements the natural tropical aspects of Miami, but also blends in seamlessly with the surrounding environment. The team plans to start building Mirai in 2024, with completion by 2025.
