Elizaveta Porodina captures the soul of dance

The New York City Ballet’s Art Series presents a stunning photography installation by Elizaveta Porodina, on display at the David H. Koch Theater at Lincoln Center, New York, through March 2nd, 2025. The exhibition, featuring a curated selection of Porodina’s striking images of NYCB dancers, will be unveiled during three exclusive performances on January 24th, 31st, and February 8th. These special evenings will combine a ballet performance, an installation viewing, and an afterparty.

Porodina’s work masterfully blends surreal, cinematic visuals with an in-depth exploration of movement and emotion. Working closely with NYCB’s associate artistic director Wendy Whelan and repertory director Craig Hall, she captured the dancers in powerful solos, duets, and trios, with colour and light playing a key role in revealing their energy. The installation uniquely merges classical ballet with modernist influences, featuring costumes by Mati Hays of House of Iconica, and creative direction that emphasizes the dancers’ dynamic expressions.

This collaboration is a significant addition to the NYCB Art Series, a longstanding platform for contemporary artists. The exhibition continues the company’s tradition of merging visual arts with dance, building on its legacy of collaborations with artists like Keith Haring and Julian Schnabel. Don’t miss this extraordinary chance to experience Porodina’s captivating photography in a truly unique artistic setting.
