This January, the digital art platform MyMA will unveil Future Tense, an online exhibition marking a new chapter for the site. Presented at myma.art, the exhibition brings together around thirty pieces by artists from around the world and focuses on lived experience rather than speculative spectacle in its portrayal of the future.
An online exhibition through the curatorial vision of Leonard Iheagwam
Curated by London-based Nigerian artist Leonard Iheagwam, aka Soldier, the exhibition will reflect his interdisciplinary practice across fashion, sculpture, painting, and skate culture. Rejecting dystopian or tech-centric visions of the future, Future Tense will present works grounded in identity, community, and lived experience.
Featured projects include mixed-media pieces layering personal histories with symbolic imagery, sculptural works blending fashion materials and found objects, and illustrative and sound-based projects exploring utopia through gesture and mood. Together, they imagine the future as a fluid field of possibility rather than a fixed destination.
With Future Tense, MyMA positions itself as a space where artists lead, cultures intersect, and digital platforms become sites for critical imagination. The full roster of artists will be announced ahead of the exhibition’s January 2025 launch.
