Hauser & Wirth London and healthcare charity Hospital Rooms have announced their ongoing collaboration, now in its third year. This year’s collaborative project, Digital Art School, will take place at Hauser & Wirth London from August 22nd to September 10th, 2024. The exhibition aims to bring the innovative Digital Art School programme to life in the gallery space, with artist-led digital workshops and free art materials for all visitors.
The show will feature live in-house creative sessions led by renowned artists including Abbas Zahedi, Shepherd Manyika and Eileen Cooper RA. In addition, filmed art activities by artists and designers such as Giles Deacon, Sutapa Biswas and Sarah Dwyer will be projected onto the gallery walls in a cinematic style. Visitors will have the opportunity to create their own artwork using the materials provided and their creations will be displayed throughout the show.
A unique feature of the exhibition is the adaptation of Nengi Omuku‘s artwork from Hellesdon Hospital in Norfolk, UK. The floor of the gallery will be covered with this piece, depicting a clear blue sky, and visitors will be able to walk, sit and create on it. Hot air balloons from the artwork will be transformed into bean bags for visitors to use and will later be installed at Hellesdon Hospital.
In addition to the exhibition, two fundraising auctions will be held with Bonhams in London on September 11th and 12th. These auctions, together with the exhibition, aim to raise £1 million to support NHS mental health services across the UK.
The partnership between Hauser & Wirth and Hospital Rooms has already raised over £725,000 through previous exhibitions and auctions. This year’s ‘Digital Art School’ continues its mission to humanise mental health spaces and improve the experience of NHS mental health patients.
