A new exhibition in Spain is dedicated to the famous German fashion photographer Helmut Newton, presented by the Marta Ortega Pérez Foundation (MOP). Created by the chairwoman of the Inditex fashion group, which owns brands such as Zara, Massimo Dutti and Bershka, the foundation is hosting the show, entitled Helmut Newton-Fact & Fiction, in A Coruña, Galicia, Spain, until 1 May 2024. The exhibition is a collaboration between the MOP and the Helmut Newton Foundation, with three curators leading the organization: Philippe Garner, a veteran of a British auction house; Matthias Harder, the curator of the Helmut Newton Foundation; and Tim Jefferies, the owner of the British photography gallery Hamiltons.
Newton, one of the most prolific and influential fashion photographers in history, will be showcased in the exhibition with some of his iconic work as well as footage of him in action and talking. The exhibition also features an exhibition of his cameras, props and memorabilia. His personal life is also explored, including how he and his wife, actress June Brunell, got married. The couple tied the knot the year after she posed for him in 1947. As a photographer in her own right, she produced work under the pseudonym Alice Springs.
Alongside his famous Big Nudes, the exhibition includes selected portraits of David Bowie, Naomi Campbell, Daryl Hannah and Andy Warhol. Find out more details on the exhibition website.
