The upcoming exhibition I Thought I Lost It! will be held at Hakgojae Gallery from September 3rd to October 5th, 2024. This project will examine the intersection of art, architecture and social agreement, focusing on how these fields can contribute to resilient communities. The exhibition will feature works by renowned artists Oum Jeongsoon (Korea), Ding Yi (China), and Shiota Chiharu (Japan), each of whom brings a unique perspective to issues of identity, memory, and social inclusion.
Oum Jeongsoon’s interactive pieces invite the audience to engage with art through touch, challenging traditional notions of how we experience art and emphasising social inclusion. Ding Yi’s geometric abstractions explore the relationship between art and urbanisation, using minimalist symbols to reflect social change in China. Shiota Chiharu’s installations, known for their intricate use of thread and everyday objects, explore themes of memory, alienation and the human experience. Together, these works create a dialogue that transcends geographical boundaries, focusing on shared human experiences and the collective memory of social challenges.
The exhibition also serves as a forum for critics, curators and architects to discuss the role of art in shaping society. Bringing together diverse artistic practices, I Thought I Lost It! offers a profound reflection on the power of art to foster social cohesion and address contemporary issues.
In the run-up to the exhibition, we invite you to read our interview with Shiota Chiharu in our third issue.
