The Museu de Arte de São Paulo Assis Chateaubriand (MASP), in collaboration with Kode Bergen Art Museum, presents the group exhibition Indigenous Histories. Curated by a diverse team representing institutions such as the National Gallery of Canada, the project explores diverse indigenous narratives from South America, North America, Oceania and Scandinavia through art and visual culture.
Featuring some 285 works by more than 170 artists, the exhibition spans a range of media, origins and time periods, offering insight into indigenous experiences from pre-European colonisation to the present day. Rather than aiming for encyclopaedic coverage, it focuses on presenting a concise yet relevant selection of indigenous histories, acknowledging the multifaceted nature of the term histórias in Portuguese and historier in Norwegian, which encompasses both fiction and non-fiction.
The Indigenous Histories exhibition, which consists of eight regional sections and a thematic section on indigenous activism, runs from April 26th to August 25th, 2024. The exhibition is currently on display at Kode Bergen Art Museum from April 26th to August 25th, 2024.
