Plastique Fantastique’s new kinetic installation, RESONANCE OF THE INVISIBLE, is now on display at C-Mine in Genk, Belgium. This innovative artwork, created by Marco Canevacci and Yena Young in collaboration with Lucas Sere Peltzer, is part of the summer arts festival Any Way the Wind Blows from June 22nd to September 15th, 2024. The installation explores the interplay of air and movement in two adjacent spaces of the former coal mine.
In the first room, a transparent volume continuously expands and contracts, creating a rhythmic cycle of inflation and deflation. This movement mimics an imaginary elevator, symbolising the connection between labour and the underground. The surrounding environment shifts perspectives as industrial echoes are controlled and amplified.
The second room houses an oversized machine, once used to operate the lift, now covered by a translucent pneumatic structure. This structure rhythmically expands and compresses, transforming the static machine into a dynamic, breathing entity. The installation is accompanied by a sonic landscape that enhances the experience by resonating with the post-organic melodies of the mine.
Through this installation, Plastique Fantastique invites viewers to experience the confluence of industrial history and contemporary art, highlighting themes of labour, transformation and the invisible forces that shape our world.
