The Detour of Identity by Roni Horn

The Detour of Identity

The Louisiana Museum of Modern Art in Humlebæk, Denmark, is hosting a major solo exhibition entitled The Detour of Identity, featuring the work of renowned artist Roni Horn. The show, which runs from May 2nd to September 1st, 2024, is Horn’s first major solo project in the Nordic countries. The exhibition explores the theme of identity through Horn’s diverse practice, including photography, drawing and sculpture. Horn’s questions about identity, gender and the human experience are answered through her art, inviting viewers to interpret these philosophical questions for themselves.

Curated by Jerry Gorovoy, the exhibition creates a dialogue between Horn’s artworks and classic films that have inspired her. It features film excerpts from directors such as Bergman, Dreyer, von Trier, Chabrol and Hitchcock, highlighting the subtle messages and complex themes in Horn’s work. The project also shows how Horn integrates cinematic techniques into her art, using methods such as editing, splicing and close-ups. This interplay between film and art underscores themes of place and displacement, sameness and difference, desire and fear.

Visitors to The Detour of Identity can expect a thought-provoking experience that challenges traditional notions of beauty and self-perception.
