Knowing and exploring the body

FKA twigs has unveiled a new durational artwork titled The Eleven at Sotheby’s in London, running from September 14th to 26th, 2024. The piece, designed to coincide with the release of her new album Eusexua, explores themes of self-discipline, healing, and connectivity. Inspired by her personal journey of physical and emotional recovery, The Eleven features a series of physical “mantras” performed by a cast of dancers, each representing one of the 11 pillars of well-being FKA twigs has developed. These pillars, with names like “eusexua body” (movement) and “primal revelation” (nature), serve as guiding principles for the artist’s sense of balance and self-awareness.

The performance is set against an electronic and techno score composed by Matteo Chiarenza-Santini, who also contributed to her new album. Alongside the live performance, the exhibition includes FKA twigs’ personal sketchbooks, polaroids, and 14 large-scale photographs taken by her partner, Jordan Hemingway, providing further insight into her creative process. The unticketed event is a bold departure for Sotheby’s, marking a new direction in their programming. Performances can be viewed from 10 AM to 4:30 PM on weekdays and 1 PM to 4:30 PM on weekends.
