Lisa Jahovic’s ‘Soft Interruptions’ finds surreal beauty in the ordinary

British multidisciplinary artist Lisa Jahovic presents Soft Interruptions, her second solo exhibition at Flowers Gallery on Cork Street in London, on view from April 30th through June 7th, 2026. Through conceptual photography and moving image, the exhibition traces subtle fractures within ordinary life, exposing moments when familiar structures begin to slip into instability.

Conceptual photography and the unease hidden inside the everyday

Shot on film and hand-printed, Lisa Jahovic’s works lean toward a tactile, painterly sensibility shaped by texture, shadow, and light. Across photographs and short films, seemingly recognisable scenes drift into states of tension and estrangement. Rather than inventing fantasy, Jahovic draws attention to the uncanny already embedded within daily experience.

Among the exhibited works is The Shoes Insist (2026), an archival pigment print portraying a horse wearing shoes—an arresting image charged with ideas of adaptation, discomfort, and systems imposed onto bodies. Fertile (2025), another large-scale archival print, extends this atmosphere of vulnerability and restrained absurdity.

Coinciding with the exhibition, Jahovic has released three short films that deepen the project’s fractured visual language. Together, the films and photographic works encourage viewers to reconsider the gestures, routines, and invisible pressures shaping contemporary life.
