The LOEWE FOUNDATION Craft Prize 2025 returns to Madrid, celebrating the finest achievements in contemporary craftsmanship. This year’s exhibition will be held at the Thyssen-Bornemisza National Museum from May 30th to June 29th, marking a homecoming for the prestigious award, which first launched in the Spanish capital in 2017. Founded by LOEWE creative director Jonathan Anderson in 2016, the annual prize honors artisans who push the boundaries of material and technique, blending tradition with modern innovation.
From over 4,600 submissions, a panel of experts has selected 30 finalists representing 18 countries and regions. Their works explore unexpected material transformations—basketry techniques reimagined in clay, intricate weaving translated into metal, and age-old motifs given contemporary reinvention. The diversity of artistic expression underscores the prize’s role in shaping the future of craftsmanship on a global scale.
Among this year’s standout entries is Studio Sumakshi Singh’s delicate copper-thread textile installation, inspired by the historic colonnade of Delhi’s Qutub Minar complex, symbolizing the fragility of memory and time. Caribbean artist Anina Major presents Sandcastle, a monumental ceramic piece that pays tribute to the braiding traditions of enslaved West African peoples in the Bahamas, preserving these vanishing techniques in stoneware.
Leading British artisans are also among the finalists. Caroline Broadhead, known for her exploration of the intersection between jewelry and sculpture, presents a luminous piece that plays with shadow and movement. Ceramicist Philip Eglin, whose work oscillates between functional vessels and figurative compositions, brings a contemporary perspective to his Stoke-on-Trent craft heritage.
A distinguished panel, led by Jonathan Anderson and featuring previous Craft Prize finalists, will select the winner, who will receive a €50,000 award. The exhibition, a must-see for design and craftsmanship enthusiasts, offers a rare glimpse into the avant-garde of artisanal practice while reinforcing LOEWE’s deep commitment to preserving and evolving global craft traditions.
