Prada Mode returns for its eleventh edition, transforming Abu Dhabi’s MiZa neighbourhood in Mina Zayed into an immersive cultural space from February 11th to 14th, 2025. Curated by renowned artist Theaster Gates, this iteration explores themes of analog minimalism and sacred immediacy, offering a retreat from the digital overload of contemporary life.
The architectural design features a striking cylindrical structure that divides the venue into two contrasting realms—an intimate interior space for acoustic performances and discussions, and an energetic exterior for live acts and DJ sets. The musical program, co-curated by Gates and NTS, brings together talents such as Egyptian multi-instrumentalist Nancy Mounir and Saudi-born DJ Nooriyah.
Cultural strategist Myrna Ayad curates the event’s programming, focusing on the creativity and contributions of Arab women. Emirati poet Afra Atiq presents a spoken word reading from her latest book, Of Palm Trees and Skies, while Mauritian musician Noura Mint Seymali delivers a captivating live performance.
Theaster Gates reflects on the essence of the project, describing it as “a reflection on the power of gathering, the human hand, and the spiritual depth of Arab cultural traditions.” This vision aligns with Prada’s longstanding commitment to fostering artistic expression across disciplines.
A highlight of the event is an Al-Sadu weaving workshop led by Awatef Almesmari, celebrating the Bedouin textile craft recognized as UNESCO intangible heritage. Meanwhile, chef Salam Daqqaq crafts a culinary experience inspired by the diasporic communities shaping Abu Dhabi’s cultural identity.
The first two days of Prada Mode will operate as a private members club, before opening to the public on February 13 and 14. The event invites audiences to experience a confluence of sound, craftsmanship, and cultural discourse, redefining the boundaries between tradition and contemporary artistic practice.
