Made on Market Street

Made on Market Street

Gagosian presents Made on Market Street, an exhibition devoted to Jean-Michel Basquiat’s work from his time in Los Angeles. Curated by Fred Hoffman and Larry Gagosian, the exhibition runs from March 7 to June 1, 2024 and features nearly thirty works on loan from various collections. Basquiat’s prolific output during his stay in Venice, California, between November 1982 and May 1984 is highlighted, with Larry Gagosian reflecting on Basquiat’s impact on the Los Angeles art scene. Basquiat’s first solo exhibition on the West Coast at Larry Gagosian Gallery in April 1982 marked his introduction to the city and cemented his importance in the art world.

The Made on Market Street catalog features reproductions of artworks, archival material, and unpublished studio photographs of Basquiat, offering a comprehensive view of the exhibition. It includes installation images from the 1982 and 1983 exhibitions at Larry Gagosian Gallery, historical ephemera, and reviews, as well as a dialogue between Larry Gagosian, Fred Hoffman, filmmaker Tamra Davis, and Basquiat’s sisters, Lisane Basquiat and Jeanine Heriveaux.

Find out more about the exhibition on the Gagosian website.
