The new Miss Dior exhibition at Shanghai’s Fosun Foundation is an ode to Dior’s iconic perfume, weaving together couture, art, and olfactory memory in a spellbinding scenographic journey. Titled Miss Dior: Stories of a Miss, the show runs from September 13th to October 8th, 2025, retracing nearly eight decades of creativity and cultural influence.
Dior’s iconic perfume: from 1947 to today
Launched in 1947 alongside Christian Dior’s debut fashion collection, Miss Dior was more than a fragrance—it was the maison’s first olfactory manifesto. This exhibition surveys 78 years of history, honoring Catherine Dior, Christian’s sister and muse, whose resilience as a member of the French Resistance inspired the perfume’s name and spirit. Archival documents, dresses, illustrations, and over 200 heritage and contemporary objects highlight how Dior’s first fragrance has evolved while retaining its timeless aura.
A pink ribbon through space
Visitors are guided through the exhibition by a motif inspired by the bow that adorns the perfume bottle. This ribbon unfurls across two floors and 630 square meters of space, transforming into arched portals reminiscent of Chinese moon gates. At the entrance, a monumental replica of the 1952 “Bobby” bottle pays homage to Christian Dior’s beloved dog, while a wall of paper flowers signals the beginning of a sensory journey that blends history, fashion, and artistry.
Dior’s iconic perfume reimagined by contemporary artists
Alongside archival treasures, the Shanghai edition features new works by contemporary Chinese artists including Ai Jing, Chen Ke, Liu Shiyuan, Zhou Li, Liang Yuanwei, and Daishi Luo. French artist Eva Jospin contributes an indoor garden installation where embroidery and couture merge, while large-scale illustrations by René Gruau and Mats Gustafson—Dior’s historic and current illustrators—envelop visitors in visual storytelling. Together, these works bridge past and present, underscoring the universal influence of Miss Dior.
Exhibition design by OMA / Shohei Shigematsu
The scenography was conceived by OMA New York, led by partner Shohei Shigematsu, known for his collaborations with Prada, Louis Vuitton, and Tiffany & Co. For Shanghai, Shigematsu and his team created a series of contrasting environments—orthogonal and organic, soft and architectural—rooted in Dior’s visual language but enriched with Chinese cultural references. The result is a poetic landscape where Dior’s iconic perfume is reimagined through fabric, glass, light, and immersive storytelling.
