More Heat Than Light

More Heat Than Light

Stroom Den Haag presents More Heat Than Light, the first solo exhibition by Agustina Woodgate in the Netherlands, running from October 4th to November 12th, 2024. The exhibition explores the relationship between temperature and information through an experimental communications infrastructure, reflecting the complex interactions between measurement and knowledge. More Heat Than Light is the result of Woodgate’s three-year research into quantum communication, developed in collaboration with QuTech, a Dutch institute for quantum computing.

The exhibition features works created with materials used in quantum laboratories, such as diamonds and lenses, and involves systems operating under extreme conditions like near absolute zero. Among the artworks is Radiations, a series of infrared lamps with poems etched onto their surfaces, and Alice & Bob, a video installation that responds to atmospheric conditions. The exhibition also includes the thermal printer Future Star, which logs temperature readings that fade over time.

Woodgate’s practice combines sculpture and conceptual art to examine how infrastructures shape public and private spaces. Through site-specific interventions, she investigates the political and poetic aspects of infrastructure, often collaborating with scientists and engineers. Her work has been shown at major international exhibitions, including the Whitney Biennial and the Berlin Biennial.
