Michèle Lamy’s exhibition in Dubai reflects the city’s transition from day to night, symbolizing the interplay between light and dark that shapes our perception of the world. The Light section explores the transformative power of sunlight, showcasing artworks by Rick Owens, Studio Drift, and others that harness the sun’s warmth to create stunning cityscapes and masterpieces of metal and glass. Inspired by Pop Art, vibrant colors dominate this section, with works such as Maarten Baas‘ Children’s Clocks and Martin Laforet’s concrete Variations seats. In contrast, The Darkness invites viewers into a mysterious realm where the work of Rick Owens takes center stage, exploring beguiling forms rooted in rich materials such as stone and wood. The exhibition encapsulates these opposing forces through the work of artists such as Nacho Carbonell, whose pieces range from brightly lit canopies to brooding shadows reminiscent of a starry night sky.
The exhibition Chiaroscuro runs until 15 March 2024. For more details, visit the Carpenters Workshop Gallery website.
