Launching May 15th, 2025, at Dover Street Market during Photo London, Julie Bullard is a dazzling new photobook that unites the bold lens of Nadia Lee Cohen with the iconic eye of Martin Parr. Published by IDEA, this faux-leather-bound, 128-page volume is more than a nostalgic nod to the past—it’s a compelling example of Nadia Lee Cohen art at its most cinematic.
In Julie Bullard, Cohen transforms into the titular character—her childhood babysitter—who embodied the glamour and mystery of 1990s Essex. This fictional portrait, based on fragmented memories, comes to life through Cohen’s signature blend of character play, costume, and visual theatre. “She was unforgettable,” Cohen says, reflecting on the woman who first sparked her fascination with femininity.
Shot in collaboration with Parr, the work blurs fact and fiction. In this surreal, pastel-hued domestic world, Martin Parr photography takes on a performative twist. Known for his satirical gaze, Parr captures staged family scenes with a deadpan intimacy that aligns seamlessly with Cohen’s vision. From heavy perms to patterned sofas, the details sing.
The concept for Julie Bullard was born in conversation with IDEA’s David Owen and quickly evolved into this meticulously executed photo project. With only 2,500 copies available, it’s poised to become a coveted collectible—one that situates Martin Parr photos within a new, theatrical context.
Julie Bullard isn’t just a book—it’s a time capsule, a character study, and a brilliant fusion of two artistic worlds.
