Mercedes-Benz, Moncler, and designer NIGO have teamed up for an exciting collaboration titled Past II Future, revealed at the City of Genius event in Shanghai on October 19th, 2024. This project features a meticulously restored 1990s Mercedes G-Class, transformed into an art piece infused with NIGO’s distinctive style from his time as KENZO’s creative director. The collaboration also includes a limited-edition G-Class model and a gender-neutral fashion collection developed with Moncler.
The fashion line draws inspiration from the vibrant New York hip-hop scene of the ‘90s and features striking bomber jackets adorned with illustrations of the specially reworked G-Class, which serves as the event’s centerpiece. NIGO highlighted his vision of blending urban culture with contemporary design, showcasing the decade’s significant impact on artistic expression. Alongside the limited-run G-Class—restricted to just 20 units—the capsule collection offers fashion enthusiasts an accessible piece of this unique collaboration.
The restored G-Class boasts a bold military green and silver exterior, complete with a removable roof and boom boxes designed by Devon Turnbull. Inside, checkered-pattern seats in black and gray, complemented by orange accents, bring a fresh take to the classic design. A Moncler puffer cover enhances the rear spare wheel, adding a stylish touch to this iconic vehicle.
Additionally, Mercedes-Benz plans to release 20 limited-edition G-Class models inspired by the Past II Future design. Each model will feature two-tone paintwork, checkered upholstery, and subtle black accents, proudly displaying a unique ‘1 of 20’ series number to emphasize exclusivity. This collaboration demonstrates the innovative potential that arises when fashion, design, and automotive worlds unite, with deliveries of the limited models expected in April 2025.
