Poor Things Costume Exhibit

Director Yorgos Lanthimos’ latest film, Poor Things, weaves a fantastical tale as Emma Stone’s character is brought back to life by Willem Dafoe’s mad scientist. The film’s distinctive narrative relies not only on Lanthimos’ surreal settings but also on designer Holly Waddington’s eccentric costumes.

Holly Waddington has created costumes that are historically rooted yet eclectic pieces that mix styles, incorporating elements such as leg-‘o’-mutton sleeves mixed with go-go boots and reimagining iconic evening wear. Waddington’s use of both Victorian and 1960s influences, along with inspiration from artists such as Otto Dix and Georgia O’Keeffe, results in a visually stunning and otherworldly mix.

Waddington’s contributions are honored in a special exhibition at the ASU FIDM Museum in Los Angeles. The exhibition will feature iconic costumes from the film alongside Waddington’s original sketches, props and behind-the-scenes photos taken by Lanthimos.
