Richard Hawkins x Loewe Eclectic Fusion

Richard Hawkins is a contemporary American artist and University of California professor known for his sculptures, collages, and paintings. His aesthetics often combine pop-culture images and objects with arcane references and quotes, addressing themes such as sex tourism, haunted houses, and the American Indian experience. He is also known for his use of traditionally feminine consumer items, informed by his identity as a gay man.

The artist collaborated with Loewe for its Autumn/Winter 2024 menswear collection. Hawkins’s art, which involves scrutinizing artistic conventions and exploring taboo pleasures of the body, has featured Jamie Dornan, Josh O’Connor, Stéphane Bak, Manu Ríos, TAEYONG, Vinnie Hacker, Omar Apollo, Loic Williams, Luke Kitlen, Obongjayar in the collection as well as through digital stained-glass collages and paintings.

The collaboration aimed to explore a new kind of masculinity and deconstruct disparate elements, featuring American artist’s depictions of internet heartthrobs alongside disembodied classical statues. The collection showcased Hawkins’ influence, with his artwork adorning various pieces, such as print, jacquard knit, and oversized bags. The collaboration reflects Loewe’s experimentation with gendered visuals and the musings on captivation, seduction, and why collage is the perfect medium for a magpie aesthetic.
