Pride in print: RIMOWA and Der Eigene chronicle queer realities across cities and selves

To mark Pride Month, RIMOWA unveils the fourth edition of Der Eigene, a limited-run queer publication that merges heritage and contemporary storytelling. Reimagined in collaboration with photographer Collier Schorr, Der Eigene brings a deeply human lens to LGBTQIA+ lives and creative expression across cities and generations.

This special edition of Der Eigene is available from June 24th, with only 300 free copies distributed at curated bookstores and concept shops in Paris, Berlin, London, and New York. The magazine’s selective presence—at venues such as Bookmarc and Yvon Lambert—reflects its collectible, cultural value.

Originally launched in 1896 by Adolf Brand, Der Eigene holds the distinction of being the world’s first gay magazine. Its modern reincarnation maintains that spirit of radical visibility. In this latest issue, photographer Collier Schorr presents striking black-and-white portraits of 15 queer individuals from New York’s vibrant creative scene. Curated alongside casting director Nicola Kast, these photographs reveal moments of vulnerability, joy, and resistance.

Each portrait in Der Eigene is accompanied by a personal interview, allowing contributors—from dancers and visual artists to students and educators—to reflect on identity, movement, and belonging. The edition concludes with an essay by writer Charlie Porter, anchoring the visual narratives in a broader cultural context.

By teaming up with photographer Collier Schorr, RIMOWA brings an emotional depth and contemporary relevance to Der Eigene. The collaboration reinforces RIMOWA’s ongoing support of platforms that prioritize creativity, diversity, and heritage.

With this new edition of Der Eigene, RIMOWA offers more than a publication—it delivers a poetic snapshot of queer life today, filtered through the discerning eye of photographer Collier Schorr. It’s a tribute to the enduring power of queer expression and to a magazine that continues to evolve without forgetting its revolutionary past.
