RIMOWA, the iconic German luggage brand, is celebrating its 125th anniversary with a touring exhibition called “SEIT 1898”. The exhibition has already been presented in Tokyo and will next be shown in New York before returning to Cologne, the brand’s hometown. It will feature over 100 cases from RIMOWA’s archives as well as collaborations with brands such as Off-White and Dior.
The retrospective tells the story of RIMOWA’s evolution over the past 125 years, from its early days in the 19th century to the present day. The exhibition will showcase the brand’s pioneering use of aluminum in the 1930s as well as its introduction of polycarbonate suitcases in 2000. Visitors will also see the iconic grooves, first presented in 1950, a Stradivarius violin, and privately owned cases from public figures like Sarah Andelman and Takashi Murakami. The exhibition will explore the cultural and technological forces that have shaped the way we travel and how RIMOWA has adapted its products to meet the needs of travelers over the years.
The exhibition will be on view in New York from September 8 to 17, 2023. It will then return to its homeland in Cologne in the spring of 2024. For more information, please visit the RIMOWA website.
