Serpentine’s bold approach to slow publishing

Serpentine unveils The Serpentine Reader, an exciting new project that brings together innovative long-form writing, available both online and in print. This annual publication champions in-depth research, reflection, and creative exploration, offering a platform for both established and emerging voices. With a commitment to “slow publishing,” The Serpentine Reader fosters cross-disciplinary dialogue and showcases immersive narratives from artists and writers eager to push literary boundaries.

The first issue, themed around circulation, examines the forces that propel us forward and the patterns that keep us confined. It explores how circulation—whether in history, ideas, or information—shapes our relationship with culture and meaning. Featured contributors include Gary Zhexi Zhang, Okwui Okpokwasili, Aria Dean, and Tosia Leniarska, among others, with essays, novellas, and poetic works that prompt readers to reflect on the currents of the world, the histories we repeat, and possibilities for change.

The publication will launch on Thursday, 27th February, at Reference Point with a special event featuring a musical response from artist Hinako Omori, cocktails by chef Nil Mutluer, and a DJ set by Manuka Honey. Limited-edition physical copies, designed by Louise Camu, will be available for purchase.
