Fold Me is Wolfgang Tillman’s fourth solo exhibition, presented by David Zwirner in New York. A symbolic continuation of the artist’s retrospective at the Museum of Modern Art in 2022, the exhibition features an entirely new body of work. Fold Me is a presentation of artistic visions that touch on the idea of simultaneous experiences in life.
Wolfgang Tillman, a German photographer and the first non-British winner of the Turner Prize, will present photographs that revolve around the concept of folds, their visual forms, and how inside and outside are connected and leave a physical impression. The artist has been exploring this theme since the 1990s and is interested in Gilles Deleuze’s interpretation of Leibniz’s monad, which sees folds as the inside of the outside. The artist’s most recent works depicting the surface of the earth, water, and still life will be presented in Fold Me. The exhibition will also include a new series of portraits, which Tillman describes as a testament to his own investigation into what it means to be a portrait photographer. Each of these photographs has a strong connection to a moment in history and a special relationship to the person’s own present.
