This summer, Studio DRIFT debuts its first-ever solo show in Spain, presenting a mesmerizing kinetic sculpture experience that blurs the boundaries between art, technology, and nature. Titled Amplitude / Meadow, the exhibition runs from July 12th through October 19th, 2025, at the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Castilla y León (MUSAC), marking a significant moment for Spanish contemporary art and international design.
Kinetic art exhibition at MUSAC
The exhibition features two of the studio’s most acclaimed installations—Amplitude and Meadow—both pioneering examples of kinetic art. Known for their immersive works, Studio DRIFT creates environments that evoke movement, emotion, and interconnectedness, inviting viewers to slow down and reconnect with the natural rhythms so often drowned out by modern life.
Founded in 2007 by artists Lonneke Gordijn and Ralph Nauta, Studio DRIFT explores the relationship between humans and the world around them through sculptural systems that draw on biological patterns and technological innovation. Their kinetic sculptures have previously captivated audiences at global institutions such as the Venice Biennale, The Shed in New York, and the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam.
Studio DRIFT reimagines nature through technology
In Amplitude, a choreographed network of delicate glass tubes sways in response to invisible energies. Inspired by the endless waves of the sea and the flow of natural forces, the sculpture generates a collective movement in which each component shifts in harmony and dissonance. As the audience moves through the space, they experience a sense of unity with the environment—an immersive feeling of being “on the same frequency” as the work itself. Through light, motion, and balance, Amplitude mirrors the subtle rhythms of the earth, offering moments of stillness and clarity.
Meanwhile, Meadow invites visitors into a surreal, upside-down garden populated by robotic flowers. These blossoms open and close overhead in response to human presence, their behavior mimicking the delicate interaction between sun and bloom. Using integrated sensors, the installation responds to each visitor like a living organism—changing its “mood” through movement, light, and color. As a symbol of nature’s impermanence and adaptability, Meadow offers a poetic reminder of the beauty found in change.
Between poetic machines and critical questions, DRIFT’s world is one of wonder and warning. Join us for an eye-opening conversation about their immersive new museum, intuition as artistic method, and the future of human creativity.
