The Cinémathèque française presents Wes Anderson, the first major exhibition dedicated to the celebrated filmmaker, running from March 19th to July 27th, 2025. Tracing his career from the 1990s to his most recent Oscar-winning film, the exhibition explores Anderson’s distinct visual and narrative style. Visitors will discover his meticulous world-building, characterized by symmetrical compositions, rich color palettes, and handcrafted aesthetics.
The exhibition highlights key moments in Anderson’s career, showcasing original props, costumes, and production materials from his personal archive. Fantastic Mr. Fox (2009) exemplifies his shift toward stop-motion animation, a technique that transformed his filmmaking approach. The show reveals how miniatures and models became central to his creative process, influencing later films like The Grand Budapest Hotel (2014) and Asteroid City (2023).
Through storyboards, set designs, and behind-the-scenes photography, visitors gain insight into Anderson’s inspirations, from classic literature to vintage illustrations. The exhibition also explores his long-standing collaborations, including his partnership with composer Alexandre Desplat and costume designer Milena Canonero.
A revised version of the exhibition will later travel to the Design Museum in London, further cementing Anderson’s influence on contemporary visual culture. Whether longtime fans or newcomers, visitors are invited to immerse themselves in the whimsical, meticulously crafted world of one of cinema’s most distinctive auteurs.
