The Knitwear Revolution

The Knitwear Revolution

The Loro Piana Knit Design Award in Milan celebrates reinvention, transforming knights’ armour into luxurious cashmere knits. This year, to coincide with the brand’s centenary, the theme was Fast Forward Heritage, challenging students to reinterpret knitwear with nobility and innovation.

Students Pierre Sauvageot and Björn Backes from École Duperré Paris won with their project Cavalieri, A History of Innovation, combining Loro Piana cashmere yarns with iron threads for modernised armour. Their work stood out among entries from prestigious fashion schools around the world, recognised for their passion, technical ability and creativity.

The award aims to nurture talent while honouring the brand’s heritage by providing students with an insight into luxury craftsmanship and innovation.
