Chaumet’s latest book, Chaumet: Photographers’ Gaze, offers a stunning retrospective of the Maison’s rich history of collaboration with renowned photographers. This collection showcases iconic jewellery campaigns and editorials by legendary figures like Guy Bourdin, Peter Lindbergh, Mario Testino, Mario Sorrenti, Richard Burbridge, and Paolo Roversi. With co-author Carol Woolton, a leading expert on high jewellery, alongside Sylvie Lécallier, head of Palais Galliera’s photographic collection, and Flora Triebel, a 19th-century photography specialist, the book traces Chaumet’s creative journey from the 1930s to today.
The authors explore how Chaumet’s partnerships with photographers have shaped the Maison’s visual identity, revealing diverse styles that transform the jewels into both wearable art and powerful objects. Through still-life compositions and captivating portraits, the book portrays jewellery as something far beyond adornment—capturing beauty in motion and engaging the viewer’s imagination.
Woolton shared her admiration for the variety of artistic styles, noting how these photographers, many not typically associated with jewellery, chose compelling ways to present the pieces, from the witty to the thought-provoking. The book also includes rare, early 20th-century autochromes, offering a unique window into Chaumet’s past. This landmark publication, available on November 27th, 2024, is a must-read for lovers of photography and high jewellery alike.
