Tomato chair in Milan: Chloé’s playful tribute to radical Italian craft

Presented in Milan during Design Week, the return of the Tomato chair signals a renewed dialogue between fashion and collectible design. Unveiled by Chloé in collaboration with Poltronova, the re-edition revisits an object first conceived by Christian Adam in 1970. The piece is on view at the Chloé boutique from April 22nd to 26th, 2026.

Collectible design: a radical object revisited

Emerging from a period of radical experimentation, the Tomato chair proposed a more instinctive relationship between body and object—one grounded in softness, sensuality, and organic movement. Its new edition preserves this spirit while refining it through contemporary craftsmanship. Long coveted by collectors, the chair now returns as a made-to-order piece, balancing rarity with renewed relevance.

Milan Design Week: a dialogue between fashion and form

Under the direction of Chemena Kamali, the project extends Chloé’s language beyond clothing into the domestic realm. Within a 16th-century Milanese setting, the chair sits between heritage and present-day expression, resisting nostalgia in favour of continuity.

Defined by its rounded, almost anthropomorphic form, the Tomato chair hovers between furniture and sculpture. Crafted in naturally tanned leather—offered in tones of cream, cognac, sand, and black—its generous curves invite a physical, tactile engagement. In this return, the chair asserts a broader proposition: that living spaces, like garments, can carry softness, individuality, and a quiet sense of freedom.
