Palazzo Strozzi in Florence is set to unveil Tracey Emin: Sex and Solitude, the artist’s most significant solo exhibition in Italy to date. Running from March 16th to July 20th, 2025, the show, curated by Arturo Galansino, presents over 60 works spanning Emin’s career, alongside new pieces created specifically for the exhibition.
Exploring themes of intimacy, vulnerability, and desire, Sex and Solitude brings together paintings, drawings, film, photography, embroidery, sculpture, and neon installations. Emin’s deeply autobiographical approach transforms personal experience into universal narratives, positioning her within a dialogue between contemporary art and Florence’s Renaissance heritage.
Among the highlights is I Long for You, a neon installation where handwritten phrases glow with raw emotion, embodying Emin’s signature confessional style. Also featured is The Memory of Your Touch, a series of expressive paintings that capture fleeting moments of love and loss through bold, gestural brushwork.
Emin’s work, known for its fearless exploration of sexuality, trauma, and resilience, invites viewers into an intensely personal yet universally resonant world. The exhibition marks a new milestone in her career, following her recent appointment as Dame Commander for services to the arts.
Sex and Solitude is organized by Fondazione Palazzo Strozzi with support from the Comune di Firenze, Regione Toscana, and key partners including Gucci as the main sponsor.
