Diorama of the Future

Diorama of the Future

The installation 2084, A Diorama of the Future created by the students of MAIA – Master of Arts in Interior Architecture at HEAD – Genèva, is a place that transports visitors into a thought-provoking exploration of the future. This immersive experience, set within the historic annexes of Villa Bagatti Valsecchi, challenged viewers to confront contemporary environmental and societal dilemmas firsthand. Within the dynamic diorama, visitors encountered three distinct projects developed by the students, each offering a unique perspective on life in a changing world.

First, The Camp presented a transformative tent concept designed to withstand extreme weather conditions while providing a multifunctional space for celebration. Constructed from anodized aluminium and layered fabric, this innovative design showcased adaptability and resilience in the face of climate challenges.

Next, The Nap offered a nomadic bed solution, combining anti-radiation fabric and cotton insulation to ensure comfort and protection from the sun’s rays during the day, while facilitating restful sleep anywhere at night.

Finally, The Treat introduced an ironic kitchen drone concept envisioned by future food giants, featuring a cupboard made from solid-stained MDF and anodized aluminium sheets, among other materials. This tongue-in-cheek design prompted reflection on the intersection of technology, consumption, and pleasure in a future world.

Through this captivating installation, the students invited visitors to engage in critical dialogue about the complex issues shaping our collective future. The installation was part of Salone del Mobile 2024, providing a platform for innovative thinking and creative expression in response to the ecological challenges of our time.
