The Paul Smith’s Foundation and Winsor & Newton are launching a new painting and drawing award. This initiative aims to support artists by allowing them to create new works of art to be sold in local Paul Smith stores. Six winners will be selected from a free open call by local industry figures.
Each winner will receive a cash donation from the Paul Smith’s Foundation and up to £1,000 worth of materials from Winsor & Newton to create new work. In the first year, artists will be selected in Tokyo, Hong Kong, London, Paris, New York and Los Angeles. Selected stores include Ocean Centre (Hong Kong), Albemarle Street (London), Rue de Grenelle (Paris), Ginza (Tokyo), Melrose Avenue (Los Angeles) and Wooster St (New York). Winners will keep 100% of the proceeds from their sales.
The jury will be made up of prominent industry figures with the networks and experience to help develop the artists’ practices. The winners will be invited to a dinner with the judges in London in October, hosted by Sir Paul Smith, with travel and accommodation provided by Winsor & Newton. In addition, the artists will be featured in a Winsor & Newton short film to be released in November 2024.
Founded in London in 1832, Winsor & Newton is a world leader in art materials. Sir Paul Smith has a long history of supporting art and artists, displaying works by established and emerging artists in his stores around the world. The W&N x PSF Art Prize is first international art project from Paul Smith’s Foundation, who are thrilled to be working with leading international voices in the sector to establish a new programme of support and build networks for artists in their local area.
Applications open on May 13th and close at midnight on June 30th.
