Hyundai Motor Company has launched the Hyundai Translocal Series, a decade-long initiative fostering global collaborations between art institutions. The project supports joint research, commissions, exhibitions, and public programming, emphasizing how artistic exchanges can deepen cultural understanding.
“Our goal is to create a sustainable arts ecosystem through translocal collaborations,” said Euisun Chung, Executive Chair of Hyundai Motor Group. The initiative brings institutions together to explore shared themes that reflect contemporary global connections.
The inaugural edition links the Cheongju Craft Biennale 2025 (Korea) with the Whitworth, University of Manchester (UK), focusing on craft and community. Eight artists from Korea and India will create commissioned works, showcased in exhibitions in Cheongju (September 2025), New Delhi, and Manchester (2026).
A second exchange pairs the Nam June Paik Art Center (Korea) with the Pinacoteca de São Paulo (Brazil) around media and performance. Their collaboration kicks off with a research forum in 2025, leading to co-curated exhibitions at both institutions from October 2026.
By fostering long-term partnerships, the Hyundai Translocal Series aims to connect institutions, artists, and audiences across borders, bridging the past and future through shared artistic inquiry.
