Kohei Nawa returns to SCAI THE BATHHOUSE in Tokyo with Sentient, his first solo exhibition in three years, on view from April 22nd to July 12th, 2025. The show continues Nawa’s long-standing investigation into objects as conduits between perception and information, set within today’s rapidly evolving technological and ecological landscape.
Through sculptural works that blur the lines between organic and synthetic, Nawa invites viewers to consider how matter shapes consciousness. Among the highlights is a series of forms coated in Nawa’s signature PixCell technique, which distorts and reframes familiar objects through layers of glass beads. Another piece reimagines primal landscapes using industrial materials, evoking a strange, post-human terrain. Sentient ultimately questions what it means for an object—or a viewer—to possess awareness in a world in flux.
