The Noguchi Museum Shop in New York City has completed a special installation of Magoji kites, carefully crafted by the legendary kite atelier that is located in Kitakyushu City, on the picturesque Kyushu Island.
The installation at the Noguchi Museum featured 70 of Magoji’s most iconic designs, allowing visitors a glimpse into the rich heritage and artistic mastery of these unique airborne masterpieces. The kites contribute greatly to traditional Japanese craftsmanship. The Takeuchi family has been creating these intricate pieces for over 100 years, using traditional Japanese techniques and materials such as bamboo and washi paper. Each kite is lovingly crafted into a variety of shapes, ranging from folklore figures to majestic animal creatures. The delicate forms and vibrant colours of the kites can often be found echoed in the works of Isamu Noguchi, an American sculptor who founded the Noguchi Museum.
The graceful flight of kites is a reminder of the power of art to uplift and inspire. Visit the website of the Noguchi Museum for more interesting news and information on upcoming exhibitions.
