Prepare to be transported into the historical realm of folding screens between Eastern and Western contexts as Fondazione Prada presents Paraventi: Folding Screens from the 17th to 21st centuries, a majestic exhibition curated by the renowned Nicholas Cullinan (Director of the National Portrait Gallery). Visitors will be able to experience this collection from October 26, 2023, to February 26, 2024, in Milan..
The exhibition will feature over seventy folding screens from prestigious international museums and private collections, as well as enchanting new creations commissioned exclusively for the exhibition by fifteen international artists. The fusion of the traditional and the contemporary, the domestic atmosphere, the themes of seduction and shame, and the power of screens to influence political and social trends will be evident throughout Paraventi: Folding Screens from the 17th to 21st centuries. Designed by SANAA, the architectural firm founded by Kazuyo Sejima and Ryue Nishizawa, the exhibition aims to create a fluid and immersive experience, with transparent Plexiglas partitions simulating the shapes of the folding screens on the ground floor and a chronological arrangement of screens on shaped pedestals on the upper floor.
In addition to the exhibition in Milan, these shows, supported by Fondazione Prada, will captivate audiences at Prada Rong Zhai in Shanghai and Prada Aoyama Tokyo, starting on November 2, 2023..
