Minimalist art at the Pinault Collection: a global retrospective

From October 8th, 2025 to January 19th, 2026, the Bourse de Commerce in Paris hosts Minimal, a major exhibition dedicated to Minimalist art, showcasing over a hundred seminal works from the Pinault Collection alongside key international loans. The exhibition explores the global evolution of minimalism since the 1960s, highlighting how artists redefined the relationship between the artwork, space, and viewer.

Minimalist artists reimagining space

Curated by Jessica Morgan, Director of the Dia Art Foundation, the exhibition presents the work of minimalist artists from Asia, Europe, and the Americas who challenged traditional methods of display. For example, Japanese Mono-ha artists like Lee Ufan and Nobuo Sekine emphasized the natural states of objects, exploring the interplay of material, space, and audience. Brazilian neo-concrete artists created sensual abstractions that invited intimate, bodily engagement with the viewer. European movements such as Zero and Arte Povera expanded sculpture through minimalist forms and interaction with surrounding space.

Highlights of art exhibitions 2025

The exhibition is organized into seven thematic sections—Light, Mono-ha, Balance, Surface, Grid, Monochrome, and Materialism—tracing the shared concerns of minimalist artists worldwide. Among the standout presentations, Agnes Martin’s serene grid paintings occupy a dedicated room, emphasizing subtlety and contemplation. On Kawara’s date paintings, displayed in unique vitrines and a solo Salon presentation, explore temporality and human perception. Meg Webster transforms the Rotunda into a landscape of natural materials, while Charlotte Posenenske’s Square Tubes Series D intervenes directly in the architecture, highlighting the fluidity of form and space.
