Throughout the Adelaide Festival, the Space Theatre will undergo a transformation into a venue for exploring the impact and joy of long-term performance. Artists from Australia, neighboring regions, and beyond will be invited by Marina Abramović and the Marina Abramović Institute (MAI) to create new site-specific durational works.
These performers will explore endurance, presence, and audience participation themes, encouraging potential interactions between visitors and artists. Visitors are encouraged to return to the Space Theatre throughout the project to witness the gradual evolution of these enduring, long-lasting performances. Marina Abramović offers a bespoke video for those attending the Takeover, guiding them through The Abramović Method, an immersive encounter distilled from her 50-year career. This experience prepares participants for an enduring artistic experience, delving into the essence of presence across time and space.
